Core i9 7980XE vs. Threadripper 2990WX - The Pre/Post 2018 Linux Kernel Performance

The Spectre/Meltdown mitigations hurt the Redis performance on the Core i9 7980XE but still ended up being faster than the AMD Threadripper 2990WX.

The context switching performance on Linux 4.20 is much better off than 4.14 according to the Stress-NG synthetic benchmarks.

The Blender 3D modeling performance was unchanged.

Spectre/Meltdown mitigations hurt the Core i9 7980XE performance for the Memcached benchmark, but even still was faster than the Threadripper 2990WX. The 2990WX did see greater performance meanwhile out of the newer kernel, likely due to the NUMA optimizations and more that reached the Linux kernel this year.

The 2990WX was slower than the 7980XE performance for Python and PHP at the end of 2018.

That's where the current Core i9 7980XE and Threadripper 2990WX Linux performance stands at the end of 2018 in a wide assortment of system benchmarks.
