Radeon RX 6800 Series Seeing Some Small Gains With Linux 5.12

For the most part, the results weren't that eventful... Granted, if you want to overclock your Radeon RX 6800/6900 series graphics card that is now available and can provide measurable uplift, but the bulk of the AMDGPU work this cycle is on non-performance changes.

In a few select Linux games though like the Vulkan-powered Rise of the Tomb Raider, the RDNA2 (Sienna Cichlid) performance was coming out ahead, most notably for the RX 6800 XT.

In some cases like Basemark the Radeon RX 6800 XT minimum FPS is much higher on Linux 5.12.

So in some areas the Radeon RX 6800 XT especially is looking brighter on Linux 5.12 but overall the difference isn't that great. This time around the feature work on AMDGPU has been in areas outside of performance -- besides the Sienna Cichlid Overdrive overclocking that will be explored in a separate article.
