Quite infrequently do we look at cooling products at Phoronix, but when something interesting comes along, we certainly snatch up the opportunity to look at something new and unique. An example of this is with the Noctua NH-U12DX, which is a heatsink designed for Intel's Xeon processors, but it does not share many traits with most workstation/server heatsinks. This tower heatsink with three heatpipes can also be setup in an air-duct design for dual Xeon systems where a the 120mm fans can push air across two NH-U12DX coolers.

Features:

- Tailor-made for Dual Xeon Setups
- SecuFirm2 Mounting System for Socket 771 & 604
- Drop-in Replacement for Standard Intel Coolers
- NF-P12 120mm Premium Fan
- NT-H1 Thermal Compound

Noctua is an Austrian company we have only dealt with once before when looking at some Noctua case fans in early 2007. Since then, however, Noctua has expanded to offer a diverse selection of cooling products for not only enthusiasts but also the workstation/server market. The Noctua NH-U12DX is packaged within a small, plain cardboard box. Inside we had one heatsink, one NF-P12 120mm fan, Noctua's NT-H1 thermal compound, wrench for securing the heatsink, mounting clips for two fans, an ultra-low noise adapter, and the SecuFirm2 mounting kit for the Intel Socket 771/604 processors. While photographs online frequently show the NH-U12DX pictured in a double-heatsink configuration for dual Xeon setups, only one heatsink is included per package.
