Until Re-Clocking Is Figured Out, Nouveau Remains Very Slow Against NVIDIA Linux

Given just what I talked about with Nouveau's re-clocking shortcoming, these results come as no surprise that Nouveau is getting decimated compared to the proprietary NVIDIA 337 Linux graphics driver.

For those that then suggest to run tests of the NVIDIA binary blob with the graphics cards intentionally under-clocked, that is rather silly too, given that no one would intentionally do this in practice and that when the GPU core and video memory frequencies are severely restricted we're not seeing the driver's full optimization abilities in full.

When there is working re-clocking support for Nouveau with Fermi and Kepler graphics cards, it will be very interesting to see how the performance compares against the NVIDIA proprietary driver. Back when the GeForce 8/9 series non-stock re-clocking support was enabled, the Nouveau driver performed rather nicely considering the driver stack was written through reverse-engineering without the support of NVIDIA Corp.
