For the benchmarking today is the very latest RADV Mesa code being tested and compared to the RadeonSI OpenGL performance with the same compatible Linux games. Additionally, OpenGL and Vulkan benchmarks were done on the same system with the 16.30.3 AMDGPU-PRO binary driver. This provides a look at all possible Linux driver solutions for AMD customers and also at how the drivers/games are performing for OpenGL vs. Vulkan renderers.

RADV Merge Day Radeon Vulkan

Graphics cards used for testing include the Radeon RX 460 and RX 480 Polaris graphics cards while for pre-Polaris coverage is the Radeon R9 Fury (Fiji) and Radeon R9 285 (Tonga). As mentioned already, GCN 1.0/1.1 AMDGPU RADV Vulkan tests will come in its own separate article due to the experimental state.

All of the benchmarking where possible is always driven via the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software.

Comparison to AMDGPU-PRO Vulkan/OpenGL results in this article. The exposed device name with the Vulkan information utility can clarify what driver is being used.

Onto these latest AMDGPU-PRO vs. Mesa and OpenGL vs. Vulkan performance data from Ubuntu Linux!
