Open-Source Win: RADV Trades Blows With AMDGPU-PRO Vulkan In F1 2017
When switching from 1080p to 4K is when the AMDGPU-PRO vs. RADV driver performance was much tighter. With ultra low settings at 4K, with the GPUs being kept busy, the Vulkan driver performance was roughly the same. Though even seeing these RADV numbers are still very impressive as in the past RADV has generally trailed AMDGPU-PRO's Vulkan performance.
Lastly when pushing the cards to their limits with 4K and high image quality settings, the performance was close between the drivers but with AMDGPU-PRO 17.40 leading by a few frames. Well, except for RX Vega where AMDGPU-PRO was leading to the stability issues.
Overall, an excellent showing of RADV Vulkan performance with this latest Feral Linux game port compared to AMDGPU-PRO. Besides the performance advantage and being open-source, RADV also has the advantage of being supported/available on far more distributions than the enterprise-focused AMDGPU-PRO. See yesterday's RADV vs. NVIDIA numbers while in the next day or two will be an even larger RADV/AMDGPU-PRO/NVIDIA comparison with more than two dozen graphics cards.
