Performance-Per-Watt & How The Raspberry Pi 2 + Pi Zero Compare To Old NetBurst CPUs

The Raspberry Pi Zero was unable to build a working copy of x264, but the Raspberry Pi 2 managed to do so fine. With this first test, the Raspberry Pi 2 with its 900MHz quad-core Cortex-A7 processor managed to outperform the old Celeron 2.4GHz processor, but it came up shy of the Pentium 4 C 2.8GHz CPU.

With the timed Apache compilation test, it took more than ten minutes to compile this web-server on the Raspberry Pi 2, which was more than a minute longer than it took on the Celeron. The Raspberry Pi Zero at $5 can still not compete with these obsolete Intel CPUs.

With the multi-threaded C-Ray ray-tracer, the Raspberry Pi 2 was running at the same speed as the Celeron system.

The FLAC audio encoding didn't do too well on the ARM side.
