Upgrading Ubuntu 22.04's Kernel & Mesa For Better AMD RDNA2 Performance
For the GravityMark graphics benchmark, the RADV Vulkan performance on the Radeon RX 6750 XT hadn't changed in any meaningful manner across testing but when using the RadeonSI Gallium3D Driver for OpenGL there was minor uplift going to Mesa 22.2-devel with the Oibaf PPA.
For Batman: Arkham Knight running on Linux via Steam Play as one of the older games tested, using the Linux 5.17 kernel and newer was yielding some measurable performance uplift for this RDNA2 desktop graphics card.
Linux 5.17 (and continued with Linux 5.18) was showing measurable uplift too when running Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as one of the most demanding OpenGL-native Linux-ported games.
DiRT Rally 2.0 running by way of Steam Play (Proton) was also showing better performance with some settings when using Linux 5.17 or newer.
