Radeon RX 5600 XT With New vBIOS Offering Better Linux Performance Following Fix
With the new video BIOS increasing the clocks on the RX 5600 XT, this does come at increased power usage. The average power consumption under load was about 30 Watts higher now than with the original video BIOS release. This was still though three Watts less than the average power draw seen with the GeForce RTX 2060 and a few Watts less when comparing the peak power consumption of these graphics cards.
The increased power consumption does mean more heat to dissipate, but under load the Sapphire Pulse RX 5600 XT did now have an average core temperature of a modest 60 degrees.
When taking the geometric mean of all the Linux gaming tests as used in our original RX 5600 XT, the new video BIOS provided a 5% uplift overall. But that increase was just enough to now put the RX 5600 XT performance on Linux with the open-source AMD Linux graphics driver right in line with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060. Some tests coming up shortly looking at the Valve ACO performance on the RX 5600 XT. Already though with this video BIOS issue now being squared away, the Radeon RX 5600 XT is making for a damn fine Linux gaming graphics card coming in at just under $300 USD.
