SilverStone HDDBOOST

The SilverStone HDDBOOST consists of a simple 3.5-inch drive bay frame made of 1.0mm SPCC with nickel plating and then at the back of the frame is the PCB where all of the magic happens. For the review sample we received from SilverStone, its PCB was labeled "HDDBoost Rev-1.02." On inside portion of the PCB are Serial ATA data and power connectors for connecting to the 2.5-inch solid-state drive that you wish to pair with the SilverStone product.

On the opposite side of the PCB is a Serial ATA data connector for interfacing with the motherboard's SATA connector for the system and then there is an additional Serial ATA data connector for connecting to the power supply for powering the PCB and the contained 2.5-inch SSD. The last Serial ATA port is for connecting to the 3.5-inch HDD that is installed elsewhere within the system. Earlier revisions of the SST-HDDBOOST also contained a USB header for updating the firmware of the device, but now with SilverStone's updated software it is possible to flash the firmware over Serial ATA so the USB header has been removed. The main ASIC on this motherboard was labeled SilverStone SST-HDDBOOST 1008.

The SilverStone HDDBOOST is compatible with Serial ATA 2.0 devices and nearly any 3.5-inch HDD and 2.5-inch SSD. The HDDBOOST is also said to be compatible with any operating system.
