SilverStone NightJar 450W

System Setup:

Fan-less power supplies are ideal for systems that are constantly running and especially if the system is running in an area within a close proximity to people -- such as with Home Theater PCs. For our testing of the SilverStone NightJar 450W, the PSU was used to power some HTPC-oriented hardware. This hardware included an ECS 790GX motherboard, AMD Sempron LE-1150 CPU, Seagate 320GB SATA 2.0 hard drive, and a passively-cooled ASUS GeForce 8400GS. While not exactly an HTPC chassis, the components were housed within the wonderful SilverStone Temjin TJ09 enclosure.

The power supply worked with this system without any faults, and of course, it was silent. Per our standard power supply testing procedures, we monitored the voltages when the system was idling within the GNOME desktop for 30 minutes and then the load testing was done by running the GraphicsMagick and Nexuiz tests from the Phoronix Test Suite. The voltages were monitored using a digital multimeter.
