Trying Out The Experimental Unity 8 Session On Ubuntu 16.10
Various settings and information exposed conveniently from the right hand side.
Currently known Unity 8 desktop bugs are documented on Launchpad.net with 157 bugs as of writing. Still crazy to think back how they originally planned to ship Mir by default in Ubuntu 13.10 three years ago and it's still not ready while their Unity 8 desktop shell was planned at that time to materialize by Ubuntu 14.10.
Still a rather bare experience with this experimental Unity 8 session and not being able to easily reach a terminal or app store out-of-the-box. Or am I somehow overlooking something big time? The relevant Unity 8 packages were installed. Feel free to comment in the forums... This latest Unity 8 experience is still very much reminiscent to me of the quality of the early GNOME 3 days. Thankfully it's not going to be the default desktop session until at least Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10.
For now I'll be sticking to the default Unity 7 experience on my many Ubuntu Linux boxes, but may fire up some Mir benchmarks when Ubuntu 16.10 is released next week.
