Ubuntu 17.04 Gaming Performance: Budgie vs. GNOME vs. KDE Plasma vs. MATE vs. Unity vs. Xfce
The Tesseract game is always quite sensitive when it comes to CPU governor changes and other alterations and with swapping out the desktop environment does cause the performance to be impacted. MATE, GNOME Shell, and Xfce saw drops in performance compared to Budgie, KDE Plasma, and Unity 7.
ET: Legacy was slower with MATE and Xfce.
With the Xonotic first person shooter, meanwhile, Xfce4 ended up being the fastest desktop followed by MATE.
