The RadeonSI/RADV Linux Gaming Performance With Ubuntu 19.04 vs. 18.10
Outside of Linux gaming, with the ParaView workstation visualization software there was a pronounced regression with Ubuntu 19.04 on the Vega GPUs.
And for a quick Java OpenGL benchmark, the performance with Vega improved meanwhile with Ubuntu 19.04.
If looking at the harmonic mean of all the frame-rate data from the Linux gaming benchmarks, the RX 580 performance was flat as would be pretty much expected at this late stage for Polaris. The Vega performance meanwhile picked up a few frames, primarily with some of the newer Vulkan Linux games with RADV but also in some OpenGL games with the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver.
Besides the gaming performance, the newer driver stack in Ubuntu 19.04 allows for RX 590 and Radeon VII support out-of-the-box, AMD FreeSync support with RadeonSI, and other new/improved functionality. Stay tuned for more Ubuntu 19.04 benchmarks as its release approaches.
