X.Org vs. Wayland Linux Gaming Performance For NVIDIA GeForce + AMD Radeon In Early 2023

Grand Theft Auto V was hitting some hangs on the RX 7900 XTX with the current Mesa driver but on the NVIDIA side there was again the tendency of seeing slightly better results when using the GNOME 43 X.Org session.

HITMAN 3 benchmark with settings of Resolution: 3840 x 2160, Quality Level: Ultra. Wayland Session: RX 7900 XTX was the fastest.

HITMAN 3 -- also running on Steam Play like GTA V -- saw similar performance for the Radeon RX 7900 XTX under the GNOME X.Org and Wayland sessions. When it came to the GeForce RTX 3090 with the NVIDIA R525 proprietary driver, the X.Org session was again showing slightly better performance.

Metro: Last Light Redux benchmark with settings of Resolution: 3840 x 2160. X.Org Session: RX 7900 XTX was the fastest.

Metro Last Light Redux was another example of better NVIDIA performance still when using the X.Org session.
