About Phoronix

Phoronix.com was founded on June 5, 2004 by Michael Larabel, whom currently serves as the editor of Phoronix.com and owner of Phoronix Media. Michael had started Phoronix.com after seeing the lack of online media that had covered alternative operating systems, primarily when it came to Linux hardware reviews. The goal of Phoronix is to provide Linux and alternative operating system readers with the most detailed and up-to-date information in the computing world. Phoronix is especially well regarded for its Linux graphics articles and with time has become the leader in providing original GNU/Linux hardware content. The name Phoronix consists of the prefix "phoro" and the root "NIX", whose combined meaning may be translated as "Linux movement".
