AMDGPU DC/DAL Code Receives Atomic Improvements

AMDGPU's DC display code (better known as DAL) received some fresh patches on the public mailing list this week to improve its atomic mode-setting implementation.

One of the latest projects by AMD developers working on their open-source Linux DRM kernel driver has been for "addressing some of the problems in DC's atomic implementation."


Atomic mode-setting is being brought to AMDGPU with the DC/DAL code as just one of the many features for this major display rework, along with other features like HDMI/DP audio, the possibility for open-source FreeSync support, HDMI 2.0, and more.

The eight patches out now refactor the AMD driver's atomic commit implementation, make more use of the generic atomic helpers, and some other minor improvements. More details via this mailing list post.

The latest DC/DAL code continues to be on this Git repository branch. Hopefully we'll see AMDGPU DC support ready (and acceptable to DRM maintainer David Airlie) for the Linux 4.12 kernel as aside from the display features it brings, this code is also a blocker for seeing AMD Vega support on Linux.
