Alienware Is Designing Its Own UI Atop Kodi For Windows Gaming Boxes

It's been revealed that for Alienware's Windows-based SteamMachine-like boxes that their default UI will be a customized user experience built atop the Kodi (formerly XBMC) multimedia software.

Alienware has been developing the "HiveMind" user-interface atop the open-source Kodi media center software. Alienware has been showing off HiveMind UI since earlier this month at E3 2015. From HiveMind is support for launching the Steam Big Picture Mode and Alienware reportedly has plans for incorporating other services like EA Origin and GOG.

It's expected that the forthcoming Dell/Alienware SteamOS-based Steam Machines will use the default UI rather than this new HiveMind UI, which is just being shipped as a better alternative to the default Windows desktop for the living room.

Alienware's changes for Kodi are open-source and can be found via Alienware's GitHub page.
