Qiang Yu of AMD has published a set of patches to provide DRI2 page-flipping support for the generic modesetting KMS X.Org driver.

AMD continues to maintain their xf86-video-radeon and xf86-video-amdgpu DDX drivers, but with some abandoning the hardware-specific X.Org drivers in favor of the GLAMOR-accelerated, universal xf86-video-modesetting driver, it looks like AMD is working on some improvements on that front.

Qiang Yu added DRI2 page-flipping support to this generic DDX driver that's hosted within the X.Org Server Git tree. This page-flipping support is based upon code extracted from the xf86-video-amdgpu driver.

The six patches implementing this support can for now be found via the X.Org mailing list. So far X.Org developers from across different vendors appear interested in this work.
