With work on porting the Linux Intel and Radeon DRM/KMS drivers progressing, within DragonFlyBSD Git they've made the first "hacky steps" for making their system console work with the KMS drivers.

Similar to the Linux functionality of the past several years for having beautiful virtual terminals at the native monitor resolution, etc, DragonFlyBSD's syscons is receiving the KMS treatment when the i915 and Radeon drivers are loaded.

The code landed in Git yesterday for DragonFlyBSD. However, it's not currently enabled by default. Those wishing to play around with the KMS console/syscons support will need to set the kern.kms_console tunable within their loader.conf.
