FreeBSD Made A Lot Of Progress In The Past Few Months Of 2014
The FreeBSD Foundation has issued their latest quarterly status report for covering from October to December 2014.
Among the highlights for the progress made by the FreeBSD operating system and its sub-projects in Q4'2014 include:
- FreeBSD 10.1 was officially released in November.
- Ports surpassed 24,000 ports/packages.
- Git was officially changed from a beta to officially supported version control system by the FreeBSD Core Team.
- FreeBSD's Bhyve hypervisor gained support for AMD CPUs and will be found in the FreeBSD 10.2 release. Support for i386 OpenBSD and 64-bit NetBSD guests were also added in the last quarter.
- LLVM, Clang, and the LLVM Debugger (LLDB) were updated against the 3.5.0 release.
- Pkg 1.4 was released.
- FreeBSD can now be used as Dom0 under Xen's new PVH mode.
- The Linux Emulator Layer was improved in Q4.
- GNOME 3.14 made it into GNOME Ports.
- Mesa 10.4 is now on FreeBSD, GBM and libclc are new FreeBSD ports, X.Org Server 1.14 was added, and there's been various other updates to FreeBSD's open-source graphics stack in the past quarter.
