For users of KDE's Calligra open-source work application suite, improvements to ODF file format reading have landed.

A big Git commit hitting Calligra this morning were a number of improvements to its ODF reader. With this commit there's basic support for ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheets), a reader for frames / graphics items / charts, support for tables in the text reader, and is a smarter implementation. For anyone using the Open Document Format with the Calligra suite, these changes should be noticeable in the next release.

It's a ton of work that landed by Inge Wallin for the next Calligra version. The KDE review board item about this work can be found here, "It would be nice to get this into master before we start on the qt5 port. The changes are limited to a very small part of the source tree and even though they are somewhat biggish, they are very simple in nature."
