SIGGRAPH Asia 2016 is happening this week in Macau and it's from that event where yesterday they announced their new VR initiative. The Khronos slides from their presentation are now available plus another VR company has already become a member of The Khronos Group for helping to push this new, open, cross-vendor VR standard.

The SIGGRAPH Asia 2016 Khronos presentation won't be too interesting though if you are up on all your Phoronix readings... The 73-page presentation covers the current state of OpenCL, SPIR-V, OpenCL road-map discussions, Vulkan 1.0 (sadly no exciting drops about details for Vulkan-Next), safety critical APIs, OpenCV, OpenVX, and more.

Overall it's not too different from the other Khronos presentations given at the graphics/industry events this year. At the end it then briefly just touches on the new VR initiative, with basically the same details covered in yesterday's article.

If you aren't up to speed on the latest Khronos standards work, you can see the SIGGRAPH Asia 2016 slides in PDF form. No video appears to be available yet.

Khronos also announced this morning that Sensics has joined as their newest associate member. Sensics is a company working on professional VR devices.
