The Kodi HTPC software will soon have a "real" Netflix plugin/add-on for making a better show/movie watching experience.

The anonymous news tipster wrote in to explain, "After years and years of users having to use workaround that relied on launchers of third-party external players or streaming transcoded video from other software there is now actually a real 'Kodi native' Netflix plugin/addon being developed for Kodi, and it is being developed as open source and has the potential of supporting multiple operating-system and different computer architecture platforms....This Netflix plugin/addon is based on Kodi's 'InputStream' binary addon extension point that can serve as input stream for Kodi's VideoPlayer which is new since Kodi v17 (Krypton). The plugin/addon enables playback of DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected content without breaking the Widevine DRM distribution chain that Netflix uses to encrypt its video stream. While this new Netflix plugin/addon currently only looks to work with Kodi built for Android it should theoretically be possible to port it to Linux, MacOS, Windows, and for example be able to run on Linux platforms popular for Kodi such as the Raspberry Pi series of computer boards."

This Kodi Netflix plugin can be obtained via GitHub. Embedded below is a look at the Netflix plugin in action:
