Earlier today, just days after the ending of their latest Kickstarter campaign, the Krita team happily announced the release of Krita 2.9.5.

Krita 2.9.5 fixes over 20 bugs, including one critical bug from 2.9.4.7 that causes Krita to crash after restarting. Though a minor release it does add in several new features such as pass-through mode for grouped layers, an on-canvas preview of the color you are picking, a new brush preset history dock and perhaps most importantly, for some: better support for existing Photoshop Documents (PSD).

Krita's increased compatibility with PSD files comes down to the loading and saving of transparency masks for PSD groups, the ability to save to group layers, loading and saving of layer styles, and correctly loading Burn, and Color Burn blending modes.

For international users there is a performance fix to correct a delay on the start of a stroke if Krita was loaded with a translation.

Release notes are available at Krita.org, with download links available at the bottom of the page for various distributions and operating systems.
