RetroArch is picking up a Nintendo 64 video plugin that makes use of the Khronos Vulkan graphics API.

Libretro announced that RetroArch is getting a new N64 video plugin that's implemented via the Vulkan API. They explained, "This is a reimplementation/port of Angrylion to Vulkan. This will be the first time most will be able to get anywhere close to playable speeds with an accuracy-based N64 video renderer."

This is the first time their Angrylion renderer has been ported to a graphics API and this complete Vulkan port comes with async compute capabilities.

Nintendo 64 fans can learn about the imminent release of this N64 Vulkan renderer via libretro.com.

Update: The pre-alpha release is now available.
