Linux Mint 18 MATE & Cinnamon Editions Released

The first official builds are now available of Linux Mint 18, the latest installment of the popular Linux distribution and now derived from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Shipping today are the MATE and Cinnamon desktop versions of Linux Mint 18 "Sarah". Linux Mint 18 brings the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop, features X-Apps as some of the new desktop software on Linux Mint, improvements to the update manager, theme enhancements, exFAT file-system support, improved HiDPI support, and a range of other improvements.

Being based off Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Linux Mint 18 will be supported with security updates as 2021. Additionally, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will be the base of Linux Mint for the next two years until the debut of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
