Lubuntu-Next images are being prepared that shift this Ubuntu derivative from using the lightweight LXDE desktop to using the newer LXQt desktop.

LXQt is the desktop environment that's been brewing for a while now as a culmination of the LXDE and Razor-qt efforts. Lubuntu has been conservative in switching over to this newer desktop effort, but now it's looking like it may finally happen soon.

Simon Quigley on the behalf of the Lubuntu release team has laid out plans for Lubuntu Next Images for those wishing to begin helping test the LXQt Ubuntu flavor. There is also now a lubuntu-qt-desktop meta-package to represent the new spin.

Should you somehow not be familiar with this new desktop, visit LXQt.org to learn more.
