Mark Shuttleworth has pointed out that Ubuntu for TVs is being "hotly discussed" right now by developers.

In a new blog posting, Mark cites the level of interest in the TV experience for Ubuntu and its Unity interface.

Among the essential items is support for control via a remote control, cloud/remote storage, playback of physical media, Ubuntu One account integration, push support from other devices, and support for controlling from portable devices.

There's also work underway on a potential Unity interface for the TV version, using Unity 2D/QML.

Ubuntu on TVs and mobile phones were brought up by Mark at the recent Ubuntu Developer Summit with the hope of having Ubuntu Linux for these new form factors ready in the next two years -- by the time of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
