Intel's open-source hardware enablement under Linux of next year's Haswell architecture continues. New HDMI audio patches have been published while the DisplayPort audio patches are still forthcoming.

There's still some problems with HDMI audio not always working with the current Haswell patches on Intel's "Sharkbay" development machines, but they are making progress. The unfortunate situation is that we're now past the merge window for the Linux 3.6 kernel so this will be Haswell audio work queueing up for the Linux 3.7 kernel, which is past the time-frame for Ubuntu 12.10 and Fedora 18 -- depending upon when Intel decides to launch the first Haswell processors in 2013, this may or may not be a problem if Ubuntu 13.04 and Fedora 19 are already out or near.

Those curious about the Intel Haswell HDMI/DisplayPort audio work, the latest information is available from the public intel-gfx mailing list for Linux.
