Lightworks, the professional-grade non-linear video editor from EditShare that's been ported to Linux, will have a public beta release before the end of the next quarter.

By March of 2013, the Linux build of Lightworks will move from being in closed alpha testing for select individuals to a public beta process for more videographers to use on Linux.

This has been a long time coming for the video editor to reach Linux as originally EditShare planned to release it for Linux in late 2011.

Lightworks is available in Free and Pro editions with the professional version offering support for items like AAF import/export, XDCAM support, DPX decode/encode, ProRes decoding, Blu-Ray VC1 exporting, and other advanced video editing features.

The Q1'2013 public beta target was shared via RedSharkNews.

Other Linux video editing software worth checking out includes Cinelerra, OpenShot, and Novacut.
