WAYLAND
For technology demos and testing, the "first true Wayland LiveCD" has been released that can start Wayland directly without depending upon an X.Org environment.

Announced on Friday was a new version of Rebecca Black OS, a distribution that provides an easy way to start Wayland from a LiveCD and try out its various demos.

The new version of the oddly-named Linux operating system has a new log-in manager that fully runs on a Wayland Weston server and no longer involves X within the boot process. X was previously depended upon for using the LightDM login manager, but that's now been replaced by a custom solution to provide an X.Org-free environment. Of course, however, there's still support for using XWayland.

More details on the new release can be found via the mailing list announcement.
