The Mageia Linux distribution that's derived from the Mandriva Linux code-base and in turn from the wonderful Mandrake distribution is continuing to advance as a community distribution and making progress.

While Mageia doesn't seem quite as magical as the original Mandrake days, Mageia has been making much progress in the past three years as proving itself as a viable Linux desktop distribution. Mageia has fiscal transparency as an organization, a wide variety of tools for users and developers, and has grown to become one of the leading desktop Linux distributions.

For those not up to speed on Mageia Linux, Bruno Cornec of Hewlett-Packard gave a presentation on the distribution last month at LinuxCon North America. The slides to the presentation are available in PDF form.
