GNOME 2 Fork MATE Desktop Aims For Wayland

The MATE Desktop, one of the popular forks of the GNOME 2 desktop environment, is seeking to support the Wayland Display Server as well as systemd -- two popular Linux technologies that have only been a focus for GNOME3.

The MATE Desktops also are aiming to pull in new packages from GNOME 3. The MATE Desktop Wayland plans were shared recently at the openSUSE Conference in Greece. Embedded below is the MATE Desktop presentation where the Wayland support is talked about, as was pointed out by this thread.
