Testing Out Intel's DRM-Next Code For Linux 3.14

Covered yesterday on Phoronix were some of the Intel DRM driver improvements for Linux 3.14 and it just so happens this week I did some early, quick testing of some of the Intel's graphics driver changes done for this next kernel.

I ran some quick tests from the drm-intel-next kernel incorporating all of Intel's driver changes through December using the Ubuntu Mainline Kernel PPA and compared its performance to the current 3.13 Git kernel and other recent kernels, as from the recent Linux 3.13 kernel benchmarking article.

Plenty of proper tests along with testing from different generations of Intel HD Graphics will come once the Linux 3.14 kernel development has officially commenced and the merge window closed. But for now if you're itching for some early results, head on over to view the early benchmark findings at 1401074-PTS-INTELDRM56. Long story short, for Intel "Ivy Bridge" HD Graphics at least don't be looking for any major performance improvements on the graphics front with the Linux 3.14 kernel -- but there's still ongoing improvements for this two-year-old hardware within the Mesa space.
