After two and a half years of development the libssh 0.6.0 library has finally seen the light of day. The wait should be very worthwhile.

The libssh 0.6.0 release introduces a new callback-based server API, support for ECDSA (Elliptic Curve DSA), ECDH (Elliptic Curve Diffie Hellman), other new APIs, new functions, Curve25519 for ECDH key exchange, key-reexchange, and even improved documentation.

More details on libssh 0.6.0 can be found via the libssh.org announcement.
