WAYLAND
The developer behind the Orbital shell plug-in for Wayland's Weston has announced the projects first alpha release at version 0.1.

Orbital 0.1 supports hotspots for triggering desktop effects, improved the workspace grid effect, added applets for audio volume and mount handling of block devices, a new default style, session support, and a splash screen. Orbital 0.1 only has hard dependencies upon Qt and Weston while the logind, ALSA, and Solid support is optional.

Meanwhile the project's Nuclear plug-in is working towards supporting xdg_shell, clips surfaces to their own geoemtry, has a graphical screenshooter client, and many bug-fixes.

More details on the Sunday morning release of Orbital 0.1 can be found out from the Wayland mailing list announcement. Orbital has been covered on Phoronix since the project's inception and most recently I had written an update on the project two weeks ago.
