Now that Mark Shuttleworth has announced Ubuntu 14.10 as the Utopic Unicorn, the next version of Ubuntu Linux is officially under development.

Some of the Ubuntu Utopic changes made prior to announcing that this next version is "open for business" includes updating Ruby defaults to version 2.1, updating the Boost defaults to version 1.55, and adding in new binutils support. The first auto-sync with Debian is happening right now for pulling in all of the fresh packages from upstream Debian.

The announcement of Ubuntu 14.10 now being open for developers can be found via the Ubuntu mailing list. Ubuntu 14.10 is slated for its official release in October.
