Nouveau developer Martin Peres has published a set of ten Nouveau DRM patches working towards proper fan/power management support for NVIDIA's latest "Maxwell" GPUs.

The patches by the long-time Nouveau contributor from France adds Maxwell support for fan management, changes to fan handling, PWM fan support (Pulse Width Modulation) support, and other power/fan related fixes and improvements.

The Maxwell support is currently focused on the GeForce GTX 750 series graphics cards with the "GM107" GPU while GeForce 800 series Maxwell graphics cards are expected to be launched soon.

NVIDIA seeded GTX 750 graphics cards to Nouveau developers and since June the Maxwell open-source support has started panning out. Phoronix tests comparing Nouveau to the binary NVIDIA Linux driver will come soon but Maxwell like Fermi and other (non-Kepler) generations of hardware still lack re-clocking support.
