Running GCC 5 On Intel's Haswell-E i7-5960X

After comparing GCC 4.9 and LLVM Clang 3.5 as the latest stable compilers on the new Intel Core i7 5960X "Haswell-E" system, here's benchmarks of the thousand dollar processor with the in-development GCC 5.

The benchmarks to share this Saturday morning are of the stable GCC 4.9.1 compared to a snapshot of the GCC 5 compiler that is still very much under active (stage one) development and will premiere in 2015. These compiler tests are just to get an idea where things are at for GCC 5 when compiling the open-source Linux benchmarks under each of the compilers on the same host and using the same CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS.

Given that this is just a quick, one-page weekend article as the compiler is still in active development and the results aren't too jaw-dropping, you can find all of the test data via 1409128-LI-I75960XGC64 on OpenBenchmarking.org. Here's some of the preview numbers:
