The latest version of ddrescue is now available for copying data from one file or block device to another while trying to recover good parts in the event of read errors.

The updated ddrescue is labeled version 1.18.1 but is a major release due to a last minute point version bump due to a bug discovered a short time before the release. The ddrescue 1.18 series brings a new test mode, support for no trimming, a generate mode, and many other new sub-command options. The ddrescue update also changes the algorithm for the copying phase, there's speed improvements, and a number of enhancements all make up this new DD data recovery release.

More details on the big release of ddrescue can be found via today's announcement to the info-gnu list.
