Intel has asked AMD about access to their Mantle technology for experimenting with this graphics API alternative to Direct3D and OpenGL.

Intel and AMD confirmed to PCWorld that the two companies were communicating about Mantle cooperation but "[Intel] remains committed to what it calls open standards like Microsoft's DirectX API."

Intel's investigations are certainly on the Window side with the Linux port of Mantle not yet having been realized, but Mantle is reportedly coming to Linux and SteamOS. AMD also calls Mantle an open-source API but they haven't yet publicly documented the interfaces. Regardless, Intel wanting to experiment with Mantle is interesting and we'll see where things lead.
