NixOS 14.12 Released To End Out 2014

Version 14.12 of NixOS, "the purely functional Linux distribution", is now available.

NixOS 14.12 stable is codenamed "Caterpillar" and includes Nix 1.8 for package management and a wide collection of package updates. The release announcement by Domen Kožar details, "11972 commits were pushed by 310 contributors since the last release (14.04)."

The Nix 1.8 package manager was released earlier this month and now uses HTTPS by default, new built-in functions, updates to various Nix commands, Nix now provides systemd units and Upstart jobs, and various other improvements and optimizations.
