Coreboot Ported To Another Lenovo ThinkPad
While Coreboot is most commonly used by Google Chromebooks, an increasing number of Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are becoming compatible with Coreboot for initializing and booting the system with open-source software.
Over the past year we've seen Coreboot ported to many different Lenovo ThinkPads, particularly the older models. The latest ThinkPad receiving treatment in mainline Coreboot is the ThinkPad T420S. The T420S is based on Coreboot's previous ports to the ThinkPad X220 and ThinkPad T520.
The ThinkPad T420S was launched back in 2011 during the Intel Sandy Bridge days. The Coreboot port was tested with an Intel Core i7 CPU and USB 3.0 support. Notably missing from this support though is no support for using the dedicated NVIDIA GPU with Optimiz (on relevant T420S models).
More details on this new Coreboot port via this Git commit.
