X.Org Is Formally Invited To Become An SPI Project

Following last month's failed vote due to not having a quorum, SPI on Thursday voted to officially invite the X.Org Foundation to become an SPI associated project. X.Org would live under the SPI umbrella and let the organization take care of its managerial tasks so the X.Org Foundation board and members could focus more on the actual development.

The SPI board formally invited X.Org to become an associated project but now it's left up to the X.Org Foundation members to vote to decide if they want to go ahead with the merger. The SPI board voted unanimously to approve the resolution as outlined at SPI-INC.org.

It's expected that the vote for accepting SPI's invitation will take place during this year's X.Org Foundation Board of Directors elections, which is still being organized but will happen shortly -- there's 90 days to accept the SPI invitation. More than likely, it will be accepted.
