As some more open-source image format news this morning besides VLC gaining a BPG image decoder, a Phoronix reader pointed out that version 1.4 of libjpeg-turbo was released this week.

The libjpeg-turbo library is an open-source JPEG implementation using SIMD instructions for accelerating JPEG compression/decompression on x86/x86_64/ARM platforms. The libjpeg-turbo library is known to be multiple times faster than the basic libjpeg and offer numerous extra features.

The libjpeg-turbo v1.4 release has various bug-fixes, ARM64/AArch64 improvements for the Huffman encoder and for compiling 64-bit ARM SIMD code for iOS, and various other minor work. The list of libjpeg-turbo 1.4.0 changes can be found via the SourceForge download page while the project site remains at libjpeg-turbo.org.
