Microsoft Announces... Windows 10 With A Start Menu
While most were expecting "Windows 9" to be Microsoft's next operating system, they've announced today the next OS update will be Windows 10.
Windows 10 is expected to debut by late 2015 and will feature a unified application platform across all devices from phones to desktops and tablets -- similar to Canonical's Ubuntu convergence strategy. Windows 10 will also mark the return of the Start Menu. Windows 10 also brings a multi-desktop feature, Metro apps that can operate in their own window, and other features restored from earlier versions of Windows.
Technical Preview builds of Microsoft Windows 10 are expected to start tomorrow. You can learn more about Microsoft's Windows 10 reveal via our friends at The Verge.
I'm only bringing up Windows 10 on Phoronix as surely vocal Linux users and open-source enthusiasts will have some interesting thoughts to share within the forums. Additionally, once I get my hands on a Windows 10 build I will be working to do some Linux vs. Windows 10 performance benchmarks.
