Users of the VLC multimedia player will be happy to know that the Wayland support is coming along for those wanting to abandon their X.Org Server.

There's been Wayland-related work in VLC Git going to this summer, but today and in previous days have been more work. There's now Wayland extended platform support to enable OpenGL / OpenGL ES through Wayland, basic window size handling, and other underlying platform work for Wayland support in VLC. This work is being done by RĂ©mi Denis-Courmont.

Those wishing to track the process of Wayland support for VLC can follow the VideoLAN.org Git.
