Alessio Treglia on the behalf of the Debian Multimedia Maintainers wrote a very lengthy mailing list post about multimedia-related improvements to be found in Debian 8. There's, of course, many upgraded multimedia applications and other multimedia packages, XBMC has been rebranded as "XBMC from Debian", MPV is available as the MPlayer/MPlayer2 fork, there's support for new media formats and codecs, etc.
