openSUSE's Factory and Tumbleweed rolling-release projects will be merged into one next month around the time of the openSUSE 13.2 release.

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed has been a rolling-release version of openSUSE for quite a while now while openSUSE Factory has generally long referred to as the next/unstable/development version of openSUSE (similar to Fedora Rawhide). However, earlier this year openSUSE Factory turned into a rolling-release project in its own right. There's been much interest around openSUSE in rolling-release form while now these two versions are coming together as one.

Tumbleweed and Factory are merging and offering a single openSUSE rolling release platform using the Tumbleweed name while Factory will rename the name of openSUSE's development process.

More details are still forthcoming closer to the merge date in early November but the basic announcement was made today via news.openSUSE.org.
